1/17/16: The converter won’t come off. I tried to pull it off, and the outer shell detached from the soft rubber sac. This is not a piston converter. The nib and feed came off easily. The feed has a long extension that goes into the sac. I haven’t tested this with ink yet. I doubt if this pen will take a cartridge or a converter.

You’re right, I’m afraid. These are the equivalent to some of the old lever pens– no converter, no cartridge possible. The rubber (?) sac is permanently in place, and is filled by pumping the “lever” on the plastic shell that surrounds it.

I thought the photos in their ad were misleading. It looks as thought the pen runs on cartridges (attached, in the photo) and converters (separate, in the photo). In fact, the “cartridge” is a permanently attached sac and the “converter” is a plastic sleeve that fits over the sac. The seller should have been much more forthcoming re the ink options. I haven’t tested these pens yet, so I’m not sure about their performance qualities.

If older lever action pens such as the Esterbrook had screw-on sections, I wonder if they could accommodate similar plastic sleeves. If yes, they’d be an alternative to levers and their J-bar mechanisms.
